Pregnancy Pilates

Safe, supportive movement for every stage of motherhood — from conception to recovery.

Why Pilates is Ideal for Pregnancy

Pilates is one of the best forms of exercise for pregnant and soon-to-be pregnant women. It builds strength where you need it most, improves body awareness, and supports you through labour and recovery.

Core & Pelvic Floor

Builds stronger core muscles — abs, lower back and pelvic floor — to support your baby and help during labour.

Easier Birth & Recovery

Deep abdominal strength supports an easier birth and a faster recovery after delivery.

Balance & Body Awareness

Working every muscle group improves balance as your centre of gravity changes throughout pregnancy.

Breathing & Lung Capacity

Improved breathing technique and lung capacity help you during labour and everyday life.

Mind-Body Connection

Learn to activate the muscles you want, when you want — useful during delivery and for postpartum recovery.

Return to Pre-Pregnancy

Pilates exercises help joints and muscles return to their pre-pregnancy condition, with strong abdominals and pelvic floor.

How Does the Pelvic Floor Help?

The pelvic floor is the foundation of your core. When well conditioned through Pilates, these muscles give you greater control during labour and support a faster recovery after birth.

Why Should Your Lower Back Be Strong?

Your lower back works with your abdominals and obliques to keep your spine neutral. As your baby grows, strong core muscles help relieve pressure on your lower back.

What You Learn in a Pre-Natal Class

Our trained instructors guide you through a journey of discovery about your changing body, focusing on total body integration, breathing and releasing techniques, ease of movement and preparation for labour positions.

  • Strengthen the lumbo-pelvic region and posterior muscles to support your growing baby.
  • Open and release the body in time for birth.
  • Learn early postpartum recovery exercises in the third trimester.
  • Constant emphasis on safety and wellbeing for you and your baby.

Can I Do Pilates While Pregnant?

Yes — Pilates is a safe and effective way to stay active during pregnancy. Here is what you need to know before starting.

When to Start

Your baby is most sensitive during the first trimester, so we do not encourage clients new to exercise to start until around the 10th–12th week of pregnancy. Ideally, start Pilates before you conceive so your body is familiar with the movements.

How Long Can I Continue?

You can continue exercising right up until just before you give birth, unless your doctor advises otherwise. Take plenty of water breaks and rest whenever you need — we are more lenient about missed classes during pregnancy.

Recovery After Birth

Our post-natal class is designed especially for new mums to help regain strength and confidence. Attention is focused on realigning the body after childbirth, rehabilitating the pelvic floor and gradually increasing strength.

  • Proper technique for abdominal separation (Diastasis Recti).
  • Exercises to rebuild awareness and strength in the deep core muscles.
  • A nurturing, positive atmosphere with instructors trained specifically for post-natal recovery.

How Prenatal Pilates Differs

Prenatal Pilates is much gentler than regular Pilates. Many standard exercises are too difficult as your balance and core change, so we modify movements using special equipment to suit your evolving body.

Specialised Modifications

Exercises are adapted to avoid lying flat on your back and other positions that may not be safe during pregnancy. Our instructors know exactly which movements are safe for each stage.

Trained Instructors

All Options Pilates instructors are specifically trained to teach pregnant women, ensuring your session is both effective and safe.

Group classes are 55 minutes long. For pricing and availability, please contact us or book through the app.
